LSU had their first big test of the season on Saturday night and what was supposed to be a tough hard fought game turned into a rout by halftime as the Tigers slammed the visiting Virginia Tech Hokies.

LSU crept closer to the Trojans for the number one spot, but after those two teams the two polls, the AP, and the Coaches Poll, could not agree on the rest of the top five.

The AP had Oklahoma at #3, the Sooners ran all over a once proud Miami Hurricane team Saturday. West Virginia avoided an upset by Marshall and was #4 in the AP poll followed by Florida at #5.

The Coaches poll saw things a bit differently on Saturday as they had Florida at #3, West Virginia at #4, and Oklahoma at #5.

Both polls agreed on the six through ten teams Texas was #6, followed by Wisconsin, who avoided a huge upset out West over the weekend, but survived. #8 was California, who many have picked to win the Pac Ten this season. Louisville represents the Big East at #9, and Ohio State, although looking unimpressive in their win, held onto the #10 spot.

Last years feel good story, Rutgers, came in at #13 in this week’s polls.

USC will face its first true test of the young season in their next game as they play against the #14 team in the country in Nebraska.
